Leadership Edge - Becoming a Go-To Player
By Stovall's Blog
Every team has a go-to player. When you pass the ball, you know this person will always deliver, score a touchdown or take it to the basket.
Go-to players produce when the pressure is on. Even if they are outside of their comfort zone or the situation is tough, these players always produce results. They deliver when resources are few. Forget having enough money or people – the go-to players never see resources as an obstacle to success. Even when there’s not much, go-to players take what they have and make even more out of it.
Ever experienced poor energy or momentum? Go-to players will deliver even when the momentum is low. The go-to guys/gals are momentum makers – they see the big picture and will trigger movement to help others around them move forward. At Celebration, we thrive on energy and momentum, so we love those who can add more energy and move others along.
In 2 Timothy 4:2, Paul encourages Timothy to be prepared to preach the Word whether the time is favorable or not. I believe that great leaders see themselves as the go-to person in their organization, group or church. They love winning. At Celebration Church, our leaders live so that Jesus wins at every turn, no matter the circumstances.
What type of player are you? Can you overcome low energy, resources or time and “deliver the goods?” Ask God to help you to be His “go-to” person in whatever area of ministry you are involved with

Yes ! Stovall –
To climb higher, we not only must be determined to pursue Him, but ever more willing to serve others despite all obstacles and shortcomings…seeing through the eyes of faith that He provides all.
Paul tells Timothy a guideline to being the go-to guy. Look at 2 Timothy 2:4-6.
4 No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. 5 And also if anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. 6 The hardworking farmer must be first to partake of the crops. 7 Consider what I say, and may[b] the Lord give you understanding in all things.
bblessed,man and LEAD ON !*c
Pastor,
We are the new A team! I am on board Preach!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, Martin!
And there was Scotty Pippen!I
I don’t think he read Pastor Stovall’s October 31 blog.
As an analogy, Michael Jordan was probably the most prominent go-to guy in his day.
While he scored the winning basket on many occassions, there were also many times he failed to do so.
I think the symbol of a go-to guy (or gal) must take into consideration their willingness to take risks, to be available to do so, but yet to realize that at times they will miss the basket.
One time after missing a free throw that would have sent to Bulls to the finals, MJ went to the court and refused to leave until he made 50 free throws in a row !
He got so proficient, he even made one with his eyes closed in a playoff game in the following years.
It is in these humbling times that we have our best growth for we work harder at our giftings.
It is in the pruning that the plant becomes stronger and bears more fruit than before.
Great Word Pastor !
This morning I was reading Proverbs 8, and was convicted by the last few verses (32 to 36) relating to God wanting me to make right choices (for him) as opposed to choices easier to make (by the world’s standards). In your role as a leader and pastor you are under even more pressure to be quick in heart & spirit to react God’s way. I am sure it must get tempting to take an easy way out and Satan is always right there to lead us down the wrong path at a given opportunity.
Can I deliver the goods? Not as well as God would wish, but it was comforting to be reminded that while sin may have the power to tarnish the capacity of God’s honor & glory, God is ultimately in control and has already won. Proverbs 8:35 says “for whoever finds me finds life, and obtains favor from the Lord”. That’s where I want to be.
Pastor,
Once again you come through when I really need you to. I praise GOD for the way the HOLY SPIRIT speaks to me through you.
This post takes me to Stephen when he is getting stoned in Acts chapter 7. Here we see a great example of a leader in the most trying of circumstances, in the middle of his own execution coming through with the love of CHRIST. Steven’s mercy for his executioners should be a lesson to all of us.
60 “ And falling to his knees he cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.” ESV
That is what I call coming through in the clutch. I place this scripture right along side of Mathew chapter 5 verse 7
7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. “ ESV
If Steven can show the love of our savior before getting his head crushed in with stones, we should be able to trust in him during times of trials in our lives.
Thanks for this one, I needed to hear it
IN CHRIST
Jason
