Being a Self Feeder
By Stovall Weems
What is alive and active in your heart about who Jesus is to you, personally? In Matthew 16, Jesus asked a very general question to His disciples about who other people were saying He was. But, He then made it personal by asking “Who do you say that I am?”
Religion is man’s way to God, but a relationship with Jesus is God’s way to man. Jesus wants to establish a relationship with each of us personally. He builds His church through His people by revealing Himself to us individually, and revealing to us what His plan and purpose is for our lives. It is so important that we become self-feeders, and make time to seek God personally to go deeper in our relationship with Him. It is then that our revelation of Jesus becomes living and active, which then leads to us fulfilling the mission that God has given us.

Pastor,
I am reminded of my prayer life when I read this post. I think we as men in the body of Christ have lots of difficulty in this area of our walk, or at least I know I do. Prayer used to be a to do list for God from me. I would ask for things that I THOUGHT would be His will. The problem is ——I THOUGHT—-. My thinking is broken, and when I come up with the idea, and don’t run it through the “GOD GRID” it gets all mangled, and usually causes calamity.
I have been learning to pray in a way where it just moves me close to Jesus. Instead of asking for something, I am just trying to get closer to Him. To be in communion with Him. This has revealed a new aspect of my walk, and has renewed my relationship with Jesus in an awesome way. I feel like I am learning how to pray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank You.
Praise God,
Jason
This seems to be my current assignment in life, although originally much against my Will. I am at a place where I literally cannot control what is happening in my life and it has forced me to go to God seeking his direction. While I know this is the best thing, I admit to walking a bit shakily. I know Christ is holding my hand. It’s what’s getting me through. Thank you for your sermons….for the truth you share and your practical spin on every aspect.
I will share a story with you about my mother. I have been telling her about Celebration and the changes in my life since attending. She has asked many questions to make sure “her baby” was going to a sound church and not one of those “charismatic churches”. I could hear the sound of disapproval, but gave her the website and held my breath. She now goes online and listens to the sermons you make available daily. I about passed out when she told me. If you only knew my mother………Anyways, I thought you would find it amusing to know that this elderly and highly judgmental woman living in a small town in NH listens to you every day. She told me last Saturday after listening to your latest message: “he’s really quite good – that Stovall….” I’m still waiting to hear that from her!
Congratulations Pastor!
Great word! I will be hosting you Sunday at New Life Church. I am the college pastor there. Look forward to meeting you!
I really enjoyed this message and God spoke to me a lot as he always does. It is good to read the bible with your family and spend that time together but when you study and get into communion with God alone, this is where the true revelation begins. God is so wonderful and he reveals himself to us even if we are not exactly seeking him in a given moment. For example, I was reading my Humanities book for class and I was reading about all of the religions and different gods and when I got to Jesus I realized that besides everything else there is one thing that stands out about him against the gods of any other religion. No other so called god has died for their people, came to earth to serve them or loved them unconditionally and that is why Jesus is the only way to heaven and the Father.
God leads us through to green pastures and still waters if we just keep trusting Him. I should be a little more aware of my surroundings and take the time to sit with Him. Thanks for the post!!
Jesus’ response to Peter’s answer was so clear. Jesus said it was the Father who revealed the truth to him and not man.
Thanks for the post Pastor Stovall. I am reminded of the verse John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing”
Thanks for the reminder. Sometimes we study only to preach. It is easy to get into a spiritual deficit.
Awesome messages on relationships!! Who we hang with is so key to who we become or simply put;
You’re never in the right place if you’re with the wrong people!
And I think the the folks at Celebration are the right people.
Peace
This post is amazing and so good.
Being a self-feeder is so important. How can we possibly keep our horizontal relationships healthy, pure, encouraged, and godly if we aren’t in constant union with the very God who imparts that to us? As we “tap” into God on a daily basis, his very nature becomes as residue on us which will in turn season our conversations and attitudes with a sweet flavor!
Thank you for this excellent Word from God! Can I be honest I am so tired of hearing people say they want something deeper! God says to seek Him and He will be found. I love to study the Word of God. I have found over the past 10 years that studying the Bible myself is where most of my growth has come. I thank God that He has given us His written Word so that he can reveal himself to us! If you really take the time to explore the Word you will go REALLY deep. Thanks again for allowing God to use you in such an extradordinary way, Pastor!
