When You Stop Learning, You Stop Leading (Part 1)

By Stovall Weems

When you stop learning, you stop leading. A huge growth principle in life is to stay humble, and stay hungry. If you have a hunger to grow and learn from others, this will lead to a greater capacity in leadership, regardless of what stage of ministry you are in. Make a commitment to be a lifetime learner.

This rings true in any capacity of leadership. I really love what was written in this particular blog entry. I love it so much I printed it out and it now sits in front of me on my desk at work. I’m a part of the worship ministry at Celebration Church and I can say that the leadership in that ministry is preparing me to be a better leader in what God has called me to do. I can apply this to anything in my life, ministry for the Lord, my government job, and my military job as well. Thank you again for blessing my life with this God filled messages.

Praise to God for Celebration Church. I have been going to churches off and on much of my life, but have only been saved coming up on eight years. Oh sure, I have asked Jesus to be my Savior, but my motives were not exactly what they should have been. Those times when I had gone to church, I expected what I heard from the pulpit to sustain me throughout the week. That’s like saying I only need to eat or drink one hour or so per week. We all know what would happen to the body if that were to happen.

I’m in my 50’s now and finally understand that it is necessary to always hunger for the Word of God. Get into His word daily, and also learn through other resources. I have been a part of Celebration Church for a little over a year and have facillitated two small groups. I remember a message you gave at a Wednesday Night service on leadership. I don’t recall the exact quote, but you said something to the effect that we don’t need more leaders, we need more servants. If we approach the Kingdom with a servant’s heart, eventually God will give us opportunity to lead. Since that night, I don’t normally refer to myself as a group leader, but a group servant.

An effective leader must always continue to learn. We could go a step further and say that to cease to learn is to leadership what to cease to breathe is to life.

    Thanks Pastor

I love what was written, if you stop learning you stop leading. Thank you, I will surely remember that.
