When You Stop Learning, You Stop Leading (Part 2)
By Stovall Weems
The first person you lead is you. It is so important to understand that all of us have a responsibility to grow ourselves, regardless of who your pastors or mentors are. Unfortunately, many people have a misconception that it is someone else’s job to feed them entirely. God has designed us to feed on Him and has given the church pastors, teachers, and leaders to help facilitate growth and teach the Word of God.
But there is more to growth than hearing a good message on the weekend. You must be a pro-active, self motivated learner on a regular basis.
Unless a person takes responsibility to feed his or her self there will be limited growth in their life. This is a huge key to spiritual maturity. Leaders are learners, and they are able to personally learn Christ and feed on God’s Word themselves.
Get alone and read your Bible and pray – God wants to reveal Himself to you!

God has sure given you the gift of being a great leader – not only in your messages on Sunday, but for posting something like this.
I agree whole heartedly pastor! This leadership role can also be replaced as “parent”. The curriculum and message we bring to the kids on Sunday is only part of our responsibility as parents to get the Word into our family. We as leaders (in the church or as parents at home) need to be proactive in quiet times with God or partnering with our spouses to read our Bible and pray so that we can lead/disciple our kids and not just think a good Word on Sunday is enough for our kids. If we do, they will starve and so will we and that can lead down to future paths of ungodly choices later in life for us all. God wants to reveal himself to our kids too!
