Fasting

By Stovall Weems

Just thinking about how powerful fasting is. Bill Bright said he believes fasting as it relates to prayer is the “spiritual atomic bomb” that the Lord has given us against the enemy. Everytime I fast I go on an extended fast with my leadership or church…

  • I sense the presence of the Lord powerfully- sometimes I will just begin weeping during prayer or worship because His presence is so strong.
  • I feel the fire of God in my heart.
  • Powerful truths or revelations of God’s Word seem to leap off the pages of the Bible at me.
  • I hear God’s voice much more clearly.
  • I am refreshed, re-energized and full of faith.
  • I receive supernatural guidance for my life, leadership and for the church
  • I sense the favor of God in a powerful way and that I am aligned with God’s purpose and will for my life.
  • I have confidence that we have received God’s vision and direction for the church that year.
  • I experience joy and peace bigtime.
  • I see all kinds of supernatural breakthroughs and miracles in the church.
  • My mind and body feel fantastic after fasting. My health is in peak form.

After I fast, I look back and think “what if I wouldn’t have fasted…” I would have missed God on so many things-and so many things would be a lot more difficult and complicated this year”

Thank you Jesus for this incredible, powerful weapon of fasting!

What has been your experience with fasting?

    Hello Pastor Weems,
I watched you on TBN this week and decided that this fast would be a great tool to thrust me farther into the things of the Lord. 2009 has been great year already. My seek is greater than it has ever been and I feel that fasting will intensify life spiritual walk with the Lord. I have attempted to complete many extended fasts in the past, I but haven’t ended many successfully.… So I have 2 questions for you! :)
1} I work full time and with crazy hours, what can you recommend for those individuals who work and don’t have much time to pray at work or even after work? I don’t want to just starve, I want to consecrate and see real results!
2} Can you advise on the proper way to prepare -spirit, soul and body- for a successful fast?

Just a qustion about the fasting… I am pregnant but wanting to do the fast. Is it fair for me to take other things out of my life rather than food but still follow the prayer?

    Sarah,
That is great that you are asking people to pray for your fast, and that is has the greatest impact possible. Nothing at all wrong with that. You want to align yourself with God and get those breakthroughs you are talking about. We are all praying for you and everyone else participating to receive that!

this might be a really dumb question – but can you ask people to pray for your fast? Like, even if they aren’t fasting, can they pray that it’s a great life-changing thing? I know the bible says something about not letting people know you’re fasting but i think that’s more like pridefully telling people, right? I just REALLY need this to break through some barriers and i REALLY need to hear God, so i want my spiritual leaders and prayer people to pray for me. is that bad?

    Amber,
Thanks for your question. Praying like that is not selfish. Present all your requests to God during the fast! Just make sure you are drawing near to God to know him better as well. He loves you!

Pastor Stovall, do you think its selfish to use each of my planned 21 days of fasting for a separate prayer each day? It sounded like a good idea until I put it on paper…now i’m already @ #9…and I’m feeling like I’m asking too much. They are all things I pray about every day…

    Hey Ryan,
Check out the fasting calendar on awake21.org We have a big weekly staff prayer meeting and prayer on Wed nights and Fri nights at the church. It is awesome.

My experience with fasting is that like Jesus in the desert I was bombarded with all types of temptations…

People should not expect the enemy to allow us to engage an ‘atomic bomb’to destroy strongholds and bring forth revival without getting a bunch of push back from hell’s minions ….

A whole ‘notha level, a whole ‘notha devil !!

But they too are ‘under our feet’ !!

Fasting is a time for me to turn my hunger of food into a hunger for God. If there is ever a time that I hear His voice, it couldn’t be more clear than when I fast. If it weren’t for having to eat to survive I tell you I’d never eat again, j/k Anyone thinking of doing the Daniel fast, DOOOOOOOO IT for 21 days, it just may be a life-changing experience that you will never forget, I tell you it has been for me!!! Not only did I get my prayer language during the last fast, but for the 10 days that I fasted, I was awaken with visions of people I needed to forgive in my life. Not only was I able to forgive others, but I was finally be able to forgive myself for the many “bonehead” decisions I’ve made ;) Life is good, Daddyo’s da BOMB!!!!! Go GOD…GO FAST :)
