Discipline – Part 1
By Stovall Weems
The difference between excellence and mediocrity is discipline. Even the apostle Paul said:
bq. I Corinthians 9:27 NKJV
But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
I believe that once a leader has built a solid foundation in their organization or ministry, and they’re experiencing some degree of success, their greatest challenge is not how to manage others, but how to manage their own life. Self management and personal disciplines are keys to health and longevity.
What disciplines are you putting into practice in 2009 to manage your life effectively?

Hi Pastor Stovall!
I’ve been attending Celebration for about two years now. From the first day I knew there was something special about your church, or maybe it was just wierd. I’m from Baltimore, Maryland which for the most part is a very racist town. Growing up I was taught to hate the white man because he is the “Devil” (crazy huh). During those days I was entrenched in Nation of Islam doctrine and just hated doctrine from my peers and family. The irony is the person that I was taught to hate all my life is the same peron that helped my to know Jesus Christ. God does have a funny since of humor. Thank you for all that you do.
Oh on another note, I am a living testament to Tithing. I never gave ten percent untill I became a member of celebration. I started giving my tenth not evening believing what the bible said I just did it because I knew that your church helps people all over the world. At the time I started giving I didn’t even have a job and wasn’t looking for one. All of a sudden I had ten times as much money than before and a job just landed in my lap. God is good all the time God is good!
Pastor Stovall,
Just last night I was watching you speak with Jentzen Franklin on TBN. Even then, as you spoke about the discipline and dedication needed for leaders to be invovled in fasting in prayer, I received such clarity. I am very thankful for the ministry at Celebration and within the relationship between you and your wife. May God continue to bless you both richly.
with blessings,
Minister Mamie
Stovall, I can’t tell you how timely this post was for me. This is the very core of what God wants to do with me during this fast. You told us last night in Wed service to pick one or two things we were really believing God for, and the very first thing that I have written down is to have physical discipline in my life. For me that means exercise and making my “outside” reflect my “inside” because I believe strongly that it is holding me back in ministry. I just posted to Facebook yesterday that I cannot expect God to position me in teaching ministry if I am wearing my lack of discipline on the outside for all to see, and I awoke this morning staring at the ceiling and praying for discipline to become the path for new excellence in my life….and then I open my email and here is your blog post. This scripture from Paul will be my meditation for these 21 days. Thanks so much.
