Waiting…

By David Branker

How often do we hear someone say “I love to wait”?  Not very often.  Most of us think of waiting in a negative connotation.  We try to find the shortest checkout line at the grocery store, so we don’t have to wait long.  We can’t wait until the weekend and even thinking about going to the DMV puts us in a bad mood.  We want to wait as little as possible and when we do have to wait, it’s usually not with a good attitude.

Isaiah 40:31  “But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired.” (AMP)

This verse puts a different spin on waiting.  When we wait on God we should expect that He is doing something in our lives, in our hearts.  We are looking for God in our situation and know that He “causes everything to works together to the good of those who love Him” (Romans 8:28). During our waiting periods, God is renewing us. He is building up His strength in us.

When you feel like you are waiting for something to happen in your life, know that God hasn’t forgotten about you or your situation.  God is using that time to prepare you for what He has in store for you.  He is with you the entire time and He will lift you up and give you the strength to persevere.  So wait upon Him.

This is so what I am going through in my life at this time. I really needed that scripture, it is SO TRUE. I wish that I could figure out what God wants for me so, I could endure the journey. This has been hard for me concerning an ex-spouse that left me. I will keep seeking God’s Will for my life through it all!!

Waiting on God seemed to be the hardest thing to do, but i realised later that its the best thing that every living creature can do. I waited on the Lord in a situation that seemed hopeful but God lifted me up at the right time. So i want to thank all of you for your wonderful works. Keep up the good work of God.

I live in a house full of girls… I am always waiting!! :) Just kiddin.

“Waiting on God” is a supertheme in just about every situation I’m facing right now. No quick fixes; just trusting God. Thanks, Pastor David!

I have often prayed ‘Lord give me patience give me now!’ Maybe not in as many words but certainly with that attitude!

When I don’t wait upon the Lord that is when I miss out on the changing (pruning) and renewal of strength that I so often need. When I don’t wait I try to quicken the experience by doing it my way and escaping out of his presence for a short cut. Failure has followed that move before and out of being “burned” I’ve learned to wait.

Awesome stuff!! Thanks for the wisdom. I have found waiting on God can be fulfilling when I look at it as waiting in the sense of serving like a waiter in a restaurant.

Pastor David, Thank you for this. I can’t say I “love” waiting, but I’ve discovered on thing… I’ve learned more about myself & about God in season of waiting than any other times in my life.

I am always waiting for someone, something, or some event, but when it comes to waiting on God; my patience wears thin while it is through him that I find strength in the wait. Thanks for the awesome post.

That is such great insight! We do get caught up so easily in the “I want it all, I want it now” mentality that the world around us operates in. I love the part at the end about God using the time we are in waiting to prepare us! I think that so often we miss some of the best lessons that God would have us learn because we get so caught up in focusing on what’s at the end of the path instead of taking it one step at a time and getting all that God has for us out of the journey. Thank you so much for such an encouraging word!

Wow, thank God for you David, as I sit here in Atl airport after waiting 2 hours at the WRONG gate and missing my flight and having to wait another 5 hours for a standby flight, I needed that more than ever! God is definitely watching out for me, He is so good. And, he sent me a nice gentleman to get me into the sky club room…I didn’t even get his name but told him he was definitely sent by God ;) I praise Him as I patiently WAIT!
