Self-awareness
By Stovall Weems
Knowing who you are as well as your strengths and weaknesses are all part of being aware of your true self. But the first principle of self-awareness is the ability to be brutally honest with yourself. This takes guts and can sometimes hurt, but the pain is worth the payoff. Many times as leaders we never stop ourselves and dig deep into why we are doing something. We can do as many things in the name of ministry out of fear, self-promotion, pride, insecurity and man-pleasing as we can out of a pure motive of obeying God. As a leader, learn to be honest with yourself.

So true! I have often found that my self-examination is less than 100% ‘true’.
I think the biggest revvy I had is that other people sometimes actually have deeper insight to character flaws that I don’t see in myself.
My wife can judge my motives better than I can sometimes because I may have deceived myself into justifying my actions although my intents were noble.
Your blogs are truly a blessing to me! Honesty is so important when leading in any aspect!
You know I wonder why we as leaders do the self-preservation thing. It seems like we so often want to pretend we don’t have any issues when it is so apparent to others (not to mention God) that we do. I guess it boils down to regular old run of the mill ugly pride. Thanks so much for your insight and transparency. You are such a blessing in my life.
Great reminder. Why not be brutally honest with ourselves. It opens up such pure, honest dialogue between Christ and ourselves, and isn’t that what He wants from us? We aren’t fooling ourself, and certainly aren’t fooling God; He knows before we do!
This is awesome Pastor. Great word.
AWWW YEAH! Thanks so much for the insight, Pastor! Stoked!
